Madeline Pennington's deep-rooted passion for food, wine, and hospitality stems from her upbringing in the wine and restaurant industries, inspired by her father, Peter Dow. Peter is the esteemed owner of Cavatappi Winery, founder of the wine importer and distributor Cavatappi Distribuzione, and the original chef and owner of Cafe Juanita in Seattle, Washington.
In 2001, Madeline moved to Southern California to attend Chapman University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Advertising. After returning to Seattle in 2005, she launched her career at the Washington State Wine Commission as Marketing Manager. There, she reenergized the Washington Wine Restaurant Awards, Washington Wine Month, and other national and international marketing campaigns and programs.
In 2012, Madeline took on the role of Director of Public Relations & Events for renowned Washington winemaker Charles Smith. She managed marketing efforts and events for Charles Smith Wines, K Vintners, Vino, Charles & Charles, and Sixto Wines. In 2016, Madeline reconnected with her love for the restaurant industry by joining Tom Douglas Restaurants as Director of Marketing & Public Relations. In this role, she was pivotal in developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and communications strategies, directing large-scale events, and creating design components for brand awareness, digital and social media, newsletters, and national campaigns and partnerships.
Following the navigation of the restaurant industry through the Covid-19 pandemic, Madeline transitioned to a role at Seattle Academy (SAAS), an independent private school in Seattle serving grades 6-12, where she focused on marketing, communications, and events.
In 2024, Madeline and her family relocated to Walla Walla, marking a significant return to the wine and hospitality industry with her new position as Director of Marketing at Metis. In her free time, Madeline enjoys exploring Walla Walla’s wineries and restaurants, volunteering with non-profit organizations, and wrangling her children's busy sports and activities schedules.
